| In this course we will discuss range of gender-related issues, such as the women’s lib, the male gaze, beauty, age(ing), pregnancy and childbirth, queerness. Be prepared to read one novel per week (feel free to read the Japanese original) and actively participate in discussions. I recommend that interested students email me before the beginning of term, but they can also come directly to the first meeting provided they approach me before/ after class. |

The course require a lot of reading. The Gender course has a higher reading load but it might still be easier for Japanese students as they could just read the Japanese originals of the novels we discuss. |
