October 28th First “Fukushima Fresk” Ever!
If you have ever joined a Climate Fresk, you know its a great way to understand the Science behind climate change.
Its a three-hour workshop where you are given the opportunity to think about the causes, the effects, and the consequences of climate change through group work.
If you are interested, we will be facilitating one on Saturday, November 14th at Nagoya University.
Having been impressed with the effectiveness of this teaching method, I thought it might be worthwhile to create a Fukushima (Nuclear Disaster) Fresk and try it with our students.
Yesterday, we tested it with 11 international students taking a humanities course about literature that was motivated by the Fukushima Nuclear Disaster. We used 31 cards in 6 sets, with a work time of 120 minutes.
The students were enthusiastic, they were having a lot of discussion, and I think the output looked quite nice.
I have a background in Biology but am not an expert in nuclear or environmental issues, We do not intend to make the fresk cards available to the public. However, if you are interested or have any comments, feel free to contact me.
