This course gives you a chance to explore the major trends in modern Japanese literature. Instead of long novels, we’ll mostly read novellas — one new text each week — so you get a wide range of voices and styles. Please come to class having done the reading; that way our discussions can be lively and enjoyable. You’re welcome to read the texts in Japanese or in any other language that works best for you.
