This seminar course is designed to interrogate Japan’s position within and interactions with East Asia, especially in the modern
period. Topics will change each year in response to global events and prevailing topics in East Asian studies, but themes generally
include Japanese social organization, international relations, nationalism and imperialism, gender, and/or the environment. A
primary emphasis will be on Japanese cultural history, including literature, pop culture, music, and film to bring different historical
periods and themes to life, especially examining the reach and reception of Japanese pop culture around East Asia.

😀週に一度はまとまった英文を読む時間ができた。チューターの留学生と関わることができた。ただ、好きな日本史を英語で学びたいと思ったが、まだ学んでいる段階としては、日本史は日本語で学んだほうが効率がよさそうだと思った。
