Manga widely refer to graphic novels originating from Japan. Embracing a vast array of genres and styles, manga are no doubt one of the most enjoyable and popular hobbies. Though many would probably associate manga with pleasure and fun (with literature on the more serious spectrum), manga have also been of great interest in Japanese studies in recent times. What is so special about manga? How do their style and representation differ from for instance, literature or films? Can manga count towards literature? Tell us your own experience!
アクション、恋愛、スポーツ、ダークファンタジーといった多種多様なジャンルや、数々の斬新な表現法を生み出してきた日本の漫画。漫画大国である日本において、趣味として漫画を読むことをあげる人は多い。漫画を読まない人でも、週刊漫画の話題で盛り上がる人々を目にするのも少なくないのではないだろうか。しかし、漫画を単なる娯楽として片付けてしまうのは、もったいない。今や漫画も立派な日本研究の一派として台頭しているからである。漫画の特徴とはなんだろう。文学や映画といった他の表現法ではかなわないものとはなんだろう。漫画は文学なのか。漫画について語り合おう！
