“Can we put a value on human lives? What if we had to?”
人の命には価値の違いはあるのか？ 命の価値を決めなければいけないとしたら、どうします？
Politicians, philosophers, as well as the general public, have been wondering what that answer to those questions might be. Recently, due to the pandemic, decision makers have found themselves in a position where they are forced to not only answer that, but to act on it.
これらの問題について多くの人が考えてきましたが、Covid19の感染拡大により、関係者は人の命の価値判断を強いられ、それに基づいた対応をさせられています。
This issue is closely related to a thought experiment known as “The Trolley Problem”. With the help of a Ted-Ed video (you are welcome to watch it beforehand), we will get familiar with this analogy. We will discuss and debate amongst ourselves what we think is moral, or more importantly, what is immoral during a pandemic. For example, should younger people be given priority of treatment since they have better recovery rates?
このことは「トロッコ問題」と呼ばれる思考実験との共通点が多く、Ted-Edのビデオ でそのことを確認します。そして、感染爆発の状況下でどういう判断が倫理的、どういう判断がそうでないか意見交換します。例えば、回復確率が高い若者の治療を年配者より優先するのは倫理的にどう考えればいいのでしょうか？
